Best Tel is a West Coast firm specializing in business communications, including VoIP and Video Conferencing. As a growing business telephone service company, their base of operations in the Pacific Northwest moved from one to three main locations in Medford, Eugene and Portland. With expansion and the expectation of continued growth, the owners realized they would have to transition from using three separate servers to a single networked system. They already had a partnership with Core Business Service, so when it came time to make the upgrade and increase their network power, “Best” called in their best.
The Client: Best Tel, LLC
When Best Tel used the word “best” in their name, they did it on purpose. They realized it was a lot to live up to, but from the day they offered business telephone solutions starting in 1991, they were determined to be number one in the industry. Throughout time, Best Tel founders established relationship with leasing companies, vendors and technical support people. Best Tel is also a part of a Consultant Liaison Program with Nortel Networks, Avava and NEC Corporation. And they are experts in ShoreTel, Tadiran, Toshiba, NEC and Avava products and have become known for their streamlined processes and ability to set companies up with VoIP and Video Conferencing.
The Problem: Separate Servers Were Less Than Efficient
Best Tel was doing its best to maintain the firm’s standards of excellence for its West Coast client base, but the owners weren’t keeping up with networking technology that could increase the accuracy, security and efficiency of its computer systems. With offices in Portland, Eugene and Medford, and continued growth, they were too busy to deal with their inter-office connectivity and issues. For a while they only envisioned single networked system that would allow them to share files and increase efficiency across the networks.
The Solution: The Installation of a Network Server and Spam Filtering
Best Tel and Core teams were already working to serve the technology needs of Pacific Northwest businesses through a partnership that combined phone and data/networking services. So when Best Tel was ready to upgrade its networking systems, who better than their partner, Core Business Services? In a weekend, the Core team installed one main terminal service in Eugene and three domain controllers in each of Best Tel’s three locations. When employees returned to work on Monday, all 30 stations were networked, their voice and data traffic traveled faster, and they were able to share files more efficiently.
The Result: A Fast and Secure Network
The Core technology team turned Best Tel’s disconnected computer system into a well-oiled networking machine. With a single terminal server and three domain controllers within each Pacific Northwest location, the Best Tel staff can now share files over a secure network. They are also getting the added bonus of Red Condor’s spam filtering system, which has eliminated unwanted emails.
